Correct storage and reconstitution of lyophilized peptides

April 9, 2026 · 4 min read

Lyophilized peptides are stable for months at −20 °C when protected from light and moisture. Before opening the vial, let it reach room temperature to avoid condensation.

Reconstitution is done by slowly adding the diluent along the wall of the vial. Never shake: vigorous agitation can denature the peptide structure.

Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) is the usual diluent because it inhibits microbial growth and allows multiple withdrawals from the same vial.

Once reconstituted, keep the vial at 2–8 °C and use the material within the documented stability period for your compound.
